RETRO ALLURE

Inspirations
Conservatism due to difficult economic times; reappreciation of good old classics. Trying to find stability, value for money, quality, style and endurance; articles that have proven their value; on the other hand, there is the need to fool around with and twist the typical classics into more modern and contemporary looks; in our last trend theme for 2007 ‘Dare’, youngsters go very far and put the classic scene completely upside down.
Inspiration is found in 30ies, 40ies and 50ies British upper class styles and French and Italian retro haute couture. Androgyny looks such as that of Marlene Dietrich with her super feminine radiance despite wearing man’s suits also inspire the fashion Industry.
Company names like Burberry and Schiesser have got a new meaning: they have become synonyms for trendy and classic, and these words are living their own lives now as a ‘flavor’ to other collections.
In general, the atmosphere is quite ‘stiff’ and prim, but Dorlastan spandex provides today’s super comfort and makes fashion a pleasure to wear!

Colors and Fabrics
Colors are classic. Fabrics are stable, heavy, compact looking weavings (maybe light weight and soft), to suggest endurance and quality. Yarns with effects; classic weaving patterns, tweeds, bouclé’s, masculine weavings, fishbone, herringbone, pied de poules and tartan checks; to give  them a ‘modern’ extra, they are often overprinted (all over), or embroidered, or blown up to large graphical sizes; colors can be different from the cliché’s for these classics; combinations of florals and masculine checks or other weavings are trendy.
For bodyfashion, also more ‘compact’ and heavy looks; layers of different materials in one; playful combinations and composé’s of ‘twisted tweeds’ and other classics with lace in one outfit; for retro lingerie and corsetry old fashion laces, embroideries and prints.

Silhouettes
Retro couture influences; ensembles and two-piecers worn by upper-class and high society; very stiff dressed-up looks for work, afternoon tea or shopping; soft round and almost egg-form shapes for skirts; collars, buttons, a large bow, large waist belts are very important and eye-catching. Jackets, tailleurs are quite short, skirts around kneelength.
Bodyfashion retro corsetry especially for a young market! Larger, and higher waist panties, very ‘dressed up’ styling, full bra cups; constructed layers. Accents on feminine round hips.

Legwear
Playful use of graphic, classic motives and composé’s with florals or different motives in fine hosiery, combined and matching with daily wear and even coats.
